"To restore the balance that today in our relationship to the Earth is lacking, we need civilization as a whole to have one faith - in the existence of the future. We can believe in the future and work to achieve it and preserve it, or we can whirl blindly on, behaving as if one day there will be no children to inherit our legacy. The choice is ours, the Earth is in balance."

Environmental Objectives of the City
The town of Liptovský Mikuláš is one of the most beautiful Slovak cities thanks to its combination of location and natural environment. It lies in the middle of the Liptovská basin at an altitude of 576 m, on the right bank of the Váh River, surrounded by the highest and lowest mountain ranges of Slovakia.
Surrounded by the natural treasury, the city plays an important function in preserving the natural treasury. In order to preserve it, it is necessary for the city to follow environmental objectives. These are based on the basic strategic documents (Economic and Social Development Programme and others) as well as on the enactments for air, water, soil, and biodiversity protection or waste management.
The city of Liptovský Mikuláš is also the seat of important environmental institutions. These have long been involved in environmental protection. The only museum of its kind in Slovakia, the Slovak Museum of Nature Conservation and Speleology, is located here.
Environmental activities of the town of Liptovský Mikuláš represent a wide range of diverse environment-themed events organized on the territory of the city for all target groups. It includes a range of implemented "blue" and "green" projects of the city as well as school facilities with regional to supra-regional impact.
The environmental activities have a synergistic effect and reflect the need to develop environmental education, especially for the younger generations as well as for the general public. This concept is the basis for the right attitude towards environmental protection, especially in a region like Liptov. A region situated in the heart of the countryside.
