Conference “Separáčik”
The conference is organized by pupils of primary schools established by the city. The themes of each grade are focused on environmental components and waste management. In 2023, the sixth edition of the conference will be held, focusing on the management of kitchen waste – legal regulations, collection from households, treatment methods, and use of compost produced. The lectures are accompanied by conference-themed poems and songs Participants can test their knowledge of the subject by taking part in the prepared tests.
The conference is complemented by exhibitions of plastic products made by the pupils and paintings showing the use of plastics.
It is important to remember that quality environmental education depends on teachers who are interested and willing to continuously improve and change their lessons and the world for the better. Teachers are tirelessly looking for new ways to teach in innovative, engaging and experiential ways. The Separáčik conference is the result of their efforts. Teachers are the role models for the pupils, but the initiative and the actual implementation is taken by the pupils themselves.
The pace at which we live and in which today’s society is developing reflects the inevitable need for lifelong learning, which is why for the first time we have decided to extend the target group of invitees to all ages. The Separáčik conference, which is presented by pupils, also involves experts and, for the first time in 2023, the general public is invited to attend as well.
Such ingenuity and creativity on the part of the schools deserves high praise, which the town of Liptovský Mikuláš has in mind as one of its environmental goals for the city.
Organizing excursions to waste sorting facilities, collection facilities
In Liptovský Mikuláš, the public utilities operate a sorting hall. Excursions to the sorting hall are organized for the public and school groups.
The aim of the excursions is to raise the environmental awareness of the participants and to emphasize the need to consistently sort the waste produced. The waste brought to the collection facility and the sorting hall is an example of the quality of waste sorting by the inhabitants of the city. The participants of the excursion have the opportunity to see with their own eyes what is placed in the collection bins for sorted waste and what all has to pass through the hands of the workers of these facilities in order for the waste to be handed over for its recovery.
